Canadian Institutes of Health Research: Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships

Canada's most prestigious postdoctoral award, the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program builds world-class research capacity in the areas of health sciences, natural sciences and engineering, social sciences and humanities. The program is administered by Canada's three research granting councils: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • Have fulfilled all degree requirements for a PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree: between September 15 2020 and September 30 2024 (inclusively), and before the start date of their award.
    • Applicants must not hold a tenure-track or tenured faculty position, nor can they be on leave from such a position.
    • Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada may only hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at a Canadian institution.

    Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships awards must be taken up and held at the host institution that provided the initial endorsement. Before applying, confirm that you and your proposed host institution meet the eligibility criteria listed at the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship website.

    Selection criteria

    All eligible applications to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program undergo an evaluation by a selection committee from one of the three federal granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
