Summary
The Bruce Hyams Scholarship in Dentistry was established by the Bruce Hyams Foundation and is awarded to domestic students who are enrolled in the first year of the Doctor of Dental Surgery and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances. Preference will be given to high achieving students.
About the donor
The Bruce Hyams Scholarship in Dentistry was established by Bruce Hyams Foundation to honor Dr Bruce G Hyams, an alumnus of the Melbourne Dental School who graduated in 1942.
Benefits
This scholarship provides a living allowance of $25,000 per year for four years, paid in half-yearly instalments of $12,500 in April and September.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident
- Be enrolled in the first year of the Doctor of Dental Surgery.
Selection criteria
The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their financial assessment score. Preference will be given to students with the highest combined Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) score and course entry score, if ranked fifth or higher.
Conditions
This scholarship is subject to the University’s Coursework Scholarship Terms and Conditions and can be deferred to the following year with prior permission from the University. In addition, students must:
- Maintain an academic status of Good Standing
- Not take more than one year of leave of absence for the duration of their degree
- Agree to the University sharing their name and the name of their course with the donor of this scholarship and provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.
