Eligibility & selection criteria
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
- be an alumni of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne who is intending to pursue an additional degree - short or long; OR
- be enrolled in a research higher degree (MPhil or PhD) in Architecture requiring to travel internationally to undertake research fieldwork; OR
- be enrolled in a graduate coursework Architecture (single/double) degree program within the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne intending to participate in a period of Study Abroad or Exchange.
Selection criteria
Selection of applicants will be based on:
Degree - short or long
- the rigour of their online application including academic merit and Expression of Interest;
- evidence of application/acceptance to study a degree program of minimum one academic year in duration
- performance at interview
Fieldwork
- the rigour of their application to obtain research fieldwork funding
International Study Abroad or Exchange
- the rigour of their online application including academic merit and Expression of Interest;
- evidence of application/acceptance to study at an international university or institution as either a Study Abroad or Exchange student

When will I know the outcome?
Applicants will be advised of the outcome within 6-8 weeks after the closing date.

Variations of this award
Degree - short or long (not currently open for applications)
- Short courses are defined as up to one year.
- Long courses are defined as 3 years or such longer period as may be necessary to enable the holders to complete their course of study
The scholarship amount will be determined based on the length of study.
If the course of study is research based, eg PhD, preference will be given to applicants pursuing the fields of Housing for the Aged or Family Architecture.
If the degree is over one year in duration, the recipient will be required to return to the University of Melbourne and deliver a 'Minnie Ackman Lecture' upon completion of the the degree.
Fieldwork
The scholarship will be awarded to research students who have passed confirmation and be in the mid to later stages of their program.
International Study Abroad or Exchange (Applications open 28 August 2023)
The scholarship provides a one-off payment of $8,000 per recipient. The scholarship is open to students undertaking one or two semesters of Study Abroad or Exchange.
This does not include single subjects with an international travel component or short courses.
Applicants must be able to undertake their Study Abroad or Exchange period prior to completion of their degree program at the University of Melbourne.
Students who are experiencing financial disadvantage are encouraged to apply.
