Summary
Melbourne University Sport proudly offers students facing financial hardship with a complimentary fitness membership, a subsidy towards joining a Sport Club or Intervarsity representation, a subsidy towards participating in our Campus Sport competition and free court hire. At MU Sport, we offer a comprehensive range of fitness and wellness services to keep you feeling good, in control of your health and connected to friends and the wider university community.
Benefits
Sport Access Bursary awarded in April (Round 1) and August (Round 2) will provide access to MU Sport Fitness facilities until April 30 of the following year.
Bursary benefits include:
- Unlimited use of the Strength & Fitness Gym (subject to maximum numbers)
- A free introductory session with a trainer in our Strength and Fitness Gym and one complimentary training program per month (subject to availability)
- Unlimited access to Group Fitness classes (subject to maximum class numbers)
- Unlimited access to the Beaurepaire 25-metre heated lap pool (subject to maximum numbers)
- Access to Member rates for all other MU Sport services and facilities, such as court hire and accommodation at the Melbourne University Ski Lodge
- Access to casual lockers during your workout
- Free Court Hire (1-hour free court hire per week – subject to court availability)
- Up to $300 subsidy towards an MU Sport Club Membership (OR Intervarsity representation, available in R1 only)
- $50 per semester towards entry into a Campus Sport competition

Eligibility
To be eligible for this bursary:
- You must be enrolled in a course of study with the University of Melbourne
- You must have an academic status of good standing
Please note that if you already have a subsidised Fitness Membership (and all the associated benefits) through alternative means or program (e.g., College Fitness Membership, Elite Athlete Program Membership, Indigenous Student Membership) then you will only be eligible to receive the following benefits:
- Up to $300 subsidy towards an MU Sport Club membership OR Intervarsity representation
- $50 per semester towards entry into a MU Sport Campus Sport competition
- Free court hire (1 hour free court hire per week – subject to court availability)
Intervarsity representation subsidies are only considered in Round 1.
Please note that any applicant who is also awarded a Sport Scholarship that includes intervarsity support will not be eligible to receive the Sport Access Bursary.
Selection criteria
Eligible candidates are selected based on the quality of their personal statement and level of financial need.
Students who received a Sport Access Bursary in the previous year are eligible to apply again.

How to apply
You must submit a complete and submit an online Sport Access Bursary Application Form and an online Student Financial Need Assessment.
Only Round 1 applications will be considered for subsidies for Intervarsity representation for 2026 Uni Nationals events (eg, if you want to be considered for a subsidy for Uni Nationals in Perth in September, you must apply for this bursary in Round 1 only).
When will I know the outcome?
Recipients will be notified by:
- Round 1: 30 Mach 2026
- Round 2: 21 August 2026
