Summary
The Mark Foundation PhD Research Scholarship - Schizophrenia, will enable a student to intensely study the molecular pathology of schizophrenia. The successful applicant will undertake up to 3.5 years of full-time study at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health that will lead to a Doctoral degree from the University of Melbourne. The Florey welcomes high achieving graduates with interest in advancing schizophrenia research to apply. The successful applicant will be able to commence their studies in 2023 in line with University of Melbourne (UoM) intake policies.
Benefits
- Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.
- Living allowance of $34,400 per year pro-rata (2023 full-time study rate) for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to 3.5 years for students undertaking a doctoral degree. The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.
- Relocation grant of $2,000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3,000 for students moving from outside Australia.

Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- be an outstanding applicant commencing a PhD in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, under the supervision of Prof. Brian Dean and A/Prof. Jess Nithianantharajah
- demonstrated interest in schizophrenia
- enrol in the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health

- Satisfy the Faculty’s entry requirements for PhD, including minimum academic achievement of first class honours or equivalent

How to apply
Initially, interested applicants should contact Student Support at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health (email: studentsupport@florey.edu.au) to obtain the scholarship information sheet.
Secondly, interested applicants should provide an expression of interest to the above email address. The expression of interest should indicate why the applicant is compelled to understand more about the causes of schizophrenia. Each expression of interest must be accompanied by a CV, and academic transcript.
The successful applicant will be guided to apply for a Doctoral degree at the University of Melbourne Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS).
When will I know the outcome?
Successful candidates will be advised of the outcome of their application by the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health.
