  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be a citizen of a country other than Australia
    • have applied for admission to a Doctor of Philosophy degree course at the University of Melbourne

    Selection criteria

    Eligible candidates are selected for nomination by the University of Melbourne to the State Government of Victoria on the basis of academic merit.

  • Application process

    If you have submitted an application for admission to a Graduate Research Degree Candidature and Scholarship, you will be automatically considered for the Victorian International Research Scholarship.

    • Only complete applications received by the relevant closing date will be considered.
    • Nominees will be contacted in November for further information.
  • When will I know the outcome?

    Successful candidates will be advised of the outcome by December.

What are the benefits?

The State Government provides a fortnightly allowance of $20 000 per annum (pro rata).

The University of Melbourne provides:

  • a supplementary fortnightly allowance of $10 000 per annum (pro rata)
  • limited paid sick leave
  • a Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarship.
