Xing Lei PhD Scholarship in Mathematics and Statistics provides additional financial support for commencing PhD candidates who are recipients of an Research Training Program, Melbourne Research Scholarship or Melbourne International Research Scholarship and are working on a project which combines advances in a theoretical area in mathematics (including probability and statistics) with their applications in other fields including, but not limited to, biology, information technology, engineering and medicine.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

    All new PhD candidates who are recipients of an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) or Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS) commencing from January 2020 are eligible for consideration.

    Australian citizens or international students. A recipient is expected to submit a proposal (up to one page) addressing the selection criteria.

    Selection criteria


    The PhD candidates must be working on a project which combines advances in a theoretical area in mathematics (including probability and statistics) with their applications in other fields including, but not limited to, biology, information technology, engineering and medicine. The recipient must be studying full time and is not in receipt of another top-up scholarship. Selection will be based on a combination of the scholarship score and the research proposal.
