Summary
The Commerce Opportunity Bursary was established with a gift from an anonymous donor, and is offered to students from the State of Victoria who are enrolling in the Bachelor of Commerce and are experiecing disadvantaged circumstances.
Benefits
The Commerce Opportunity Bursary provides $15,000 per annum for the duration of the course (up to three years).
Recipients of the scholarship will automatically be admitted into the Abernethy Scholars Program. This program provides unique opportunities such as guaranteed access to the Faculty’s Career Mentoring Program, invitations to a variety of leadership events hosted by the Faculty and an academic mentoring opportunity with Professor Margaret Abernethy, Sir Douglas Copland Chair of Commerce and former Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this bursary, you must:
- be an Australian citizen residing in Victoria,
- have a strong academic ability,
- be in financial need or otherwise disadvantaged,
- apply to commence the Bachelor of Commerce through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC),
- submit an application for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) via VTAC,
- meet the criteria to be eligible under the Access Melbourne Scheme.
Selection criteria
Selection is based on academic merit and the documented disadvantage associated with one or more of the seven equity categories.
Selection is made based on information provided by VTAC at the time of the selection. The Selection Committee will not have access to change of course preference information.

Students who meet the eligibility criteria will be automatically considered. There is no separate application process.

Successful applicants will be contacted by mid-December. Unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.

My scholarship helped me financially, and it also provided me with a network of friends. Receiving a scholarship drove me to reflect on how I can assist others who are less fortunate than me, in order to benefit individuals and society collectively.
