Summary
The Commerce Opportunity Bursary was established with a gift from an anonymous donor, and is offered to students from the State of Victoria who are enrolling in the Bachelor of Commerce and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances.
Benefits
This bursary provides a living allowance of $15,000 per year for the duration of the course (up to three years), paid in half-yearly instalments of $7500 in April and September.
Recipients of the scholarship will automatically be admitted into the Abernethy Scholars Program. This program provides unique opportunities such as guaranteed access to the Faculty’s Career Mentoring Program, invitations to a variety of leadership events hosted by the Faculty and an academic mentoring opportunity with Professor Margaret Abernethy, Sir Douglas Copland Chair of Commerce and former Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this bursary, you must:
- Be an Australian citizen residing in Victoria
- Have a strong academic ability
- Be in financial need or otherwise disadvantaged
- Apply to commence the Bachelor of Commerce through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC)
- Submit a VTAC Equity Schemes and scholarships application (formerly SEAS)
- Meet the criteria and be eligible for Access Melbourne consideration.

Selection is based on academic merit and the documented disadvantage associated with one or more of the Access Melbourne categories.

My scholarship helped me financially, and it also provided me with a network of friends. Receiving a scholarship drove me to reflect on how I can assist others who are less fortunate than me, in order to benefit individuals and society collectively.
