Summary
The Brian and Ann Dooley PhD Scholarship was established with a gift from Brian and Ann Dooley and is offered to students who are enrolling in a graduate research degree in the Melbourne Dental School.
Benefits
This scholarship provides either;
- A fortnightly standard stipend with a rate of $38,500 per year (2025 full-time study rate) for 2 years for students enrolled in the Master of Philosophy or 3.5 years for students enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy, or
- A fortnightly stipend which may vary in value depending on the available income of the gift, in which case the scholarship can be held concurrently with another graduate research scholarship
The stipend may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, parenting and partner leave.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must have applied and met the entry requirements for the Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy in the Melbourne Dental school.
Selection criteria
The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their course application and faculty scholarship score, research proposal and performance at an interview (if required). In the interests of equitable distribution of scholarships, other scholarships from the University of Melbourne received by students are considered.
Conditions
This scholarship is subject to the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences Graduate Research Trust Scholarships Terms and Conditions and cannot be deferred. In addition, students must:
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Agree to the University sharing their name and course details with the donor of their scholarship and provide a note of appreciation or a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.

How to apply
Applicants to Graduate Research degrees at the Melbourne Dental School will be automatically considered for this scholarship at the time of submission of their application to the degree and concurrent consideration for a Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarship.
No additional application is required.
