Agilent Indigenous STEM Leadership Awards

The Agilent Technologies Foundation is pleased to support the Agilent Indigenous STEM Leadership Awards at the University of Melbourne. The Award recognises demonstrated leadership by Indigenous students who are either enrolled in a STEM degree at Melbourne, or enrolled at the University of Melbourne and participating in programs that have a STEM focus. The award is valued at $2,000 per award. More than one award will be made per year.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria


    To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

    • Indigenous students enrolled in STEM degrees OR Enrolled in other degrees and who have participated in Indigenous STEM activities or activities conducted by the University
    • Candidates may be enrolled in undergraduate, graduate coursework or graduate research degrees.
    • Indigeneity – as verified by Murrup Barak

    Selection criteria

    1.  Academic capacity as determined by:

    Undergraduate and Graduate Coursework: Applicants must be making satisfactory progress in their course at the time of their application

    Graduate Research: candidate must have passed confirmation

    2.   Demonstrated leadership contributions to the University of Melbourne, for example, leadership development programs, mentoring roles, student ambassadorial roles.

    Leadership development and activities outside the University which complement the candidate’s University activities can also be taken into account , for instance:

    Community involvement e.g. demonstration of active involvement in the Indigenous community, volunteering, mentoring, attending community meetings.

    3. Applications will include a written statement from the candidate outlining their reasons for applying and summarising their demonstrated leadership   and the potential impact of the award on their academic and/or personal development.

    All candidates must make clear how the relevant activity / activities align to STEM.

    Applications must include the following endorsement:

    * Undergraduate and Graduate coursework students – from the Director of the degree in which the student is enrolled, or the relevant Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) in the Faculty offering the degree

    * PhD students – from the head of the Faculty or School of the candidate’s PhD candidature, or the PhD supervisor.

  • Application process

    Applicants must apply through the apply link below ('submit a scholarship application' button). The applications require extended responses about 'leadership', 'award impact' and experience of STEM activities. An endorsement from the applicants course director, Head of School or PhD supervisor is also required.
