Aileen Sinclair Memorial Scholarship
The family of the late Aileen Sinclair, a much-loved staff member of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, has endowed a scholarship to support students enrolled in a professional Engineering master who have experienced financial need and disadvantage.

Eligibility & selection criteria
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident; and
- be enrolled in one of the professional 300-point engineering Master by coursework degrees in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT); and
- demonstrate (in order of priority):
- financial need; and
- have experienced one of the following areas of disadvantage: are from non English-speaking background; disability; student from a rural area; identify as a woman in a non-traditional area; and
- academic ability.
Selection criteria
Applications will be assessed on the following criteria (in order of priority):
- Financial need: as determined by the information provided in your application, including submission of a 2024 FEIT Student Financial Assessment form
- Disadvantage:
- Non English-speaking background:
You are eligible if you were born outside Australia in a non-English speaking country and arrived in Australia during your secondary education; or - Disability:
You're eligible for this category if you've experienced a disability or chronic medical condition (physical, sensory, intellectual, acquired brain injury or neurological impairment) prior to or since your tertiary study; or - Student from a rural area:
You are eligible if you resided in a rural area for 5 years (consecutive) or 10 years (cumulatively), from birth. A rural or isolated area is defined as an area with an Australian Standard Geographic Classification of: RA2, RA3, RA4 or RA5. If you are based in Victoria this essentially means anywhere outside of Melbourne or Geelong. You can check the classification of your address on the Department of Health and Ageing website; or - Identify as a woman in a non-traditional area (engineering); and
3. Academic ability: as determined by your current or most recent WAM.

When will I know the outcome?
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application approximately six weeks after the application close date.

Aileen Sinclair
Ms Aileen Sinclair was a much loved member of staff at the Melbourne School of Engineering. The Aileen Sinclair Memorial Scholarship is intended to continue the support Aileen gave to the students during her time at the University and is available to students enrolled in the Masters of Engineering who are experiencing difficult circumstances.
What are the benefits?
In 2024, one scholarship valued at approximately $4,700 is available and will be awarded in a single payment.
