Summary
The Arts Global Languages Scholarship is offered to high achieving undergraduate and graduate language students to support language-enriching study at overseas institutions. These scholarships are designed to assist with the costs of undertaking study programs of reasonable length, or semester/year-long exchanges.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
- Students must be enrolled in a University of Melbourne degree during the scholarship application round.
- At the time of application:
- Graduate students must have completed 50 points in their enrolled course.
- Undergraduate students must have completed 100 points in their enrolled course.
- All students must have completed 25 points of modern language (other than English) study at the University of Melbourne, or through approved complementary language subjects at other institutions which are credited against the enrolled degree or diploma.
- At the time of application, students must be enrolled in a subject that teaches the same language as the target language of their overseas study.
- Applicants must have no results below 70% (H2B) in the target language, and an overall WAM of 70% across their academic record.
- The target language to be studied must be a either a native or official language of the intended country of exchange or study abroad.
- The proposed overseas program of study must be equivalent to at least 12.5 points delivered in the target language and be credit bearing towards the currently enrolled University of Melbourne course.
- Overseas programs shorter than a semester must be of an intensive delivery mode with at least three weeks in duration. Note: for University of Melbourne Overseas Subjects (UMOS), the minimum duration is two weeks. Students undertaking a UMOS program are not required to submit their approved proposed Study Plan.
- The overseas study program must be approved by the Faculty and the University.
- Students are ineligible for an Arts Global Languages Scholarship if they have previously been, or have currently been awarded any of the following:
- Melbourne Mobility Awards
- Arts Global Languages Scholarship (previously known as Melbourne Global Languages Scholarship)
- New Columbo Plan funding
- Faculty of Arts Exchange Enabling Scholarship
- Any other funding related to facilitation of student global mobility
- The Scholarship cannot be deferred; students unable to travel in the period the scholarship is awarded should reapply again in a future round.
- Should a student receive a scholarship but the planned study abroad does not eventuate and the travel is cancelled, funds must be returned to the University.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Selection criteria
Students are considered against the eligibility criteria by the Arts Global Language Scholarship Committee, and eligible applicants are awarded a Scholarship to an amount determined based on the duration of the course and the country of travel. Should the number of successful applicants outstrip the funding available, successful applicants will be rank ordered by WAM and scholarships will be awarded based on highest WAM until the funding runs out.
Conditions
Awards will be made only for courses that can be credited to a University of Melbourne degree or diploma. Students must obtain School and Faculty approval to credit their chosen overseas course to their degree. Please see the list of co-ordinators and Stop 1 to have your application form approved.

How to apply
Round 1 opens in early February and closes in early April for students travelling in May and October of that year.
Round 2 opens in late June and closes in early September for students travelling in November of that year to April of the following year.
Exchange students please note: the application process for the Arts Global Languages Scholarship (AGLS) is separate from the exchange process.
