Summary
The Arts Graduate Research Conference Grant provides Arts graduate researchers with financial support to present at a research conference as part of their thesis with the aim to create opportunities for graduate researchers to enhance their research experience and build their networks.
Benefits
A one-off payment of up to:
- $500 for virtual conference
- $1,000 for conferences within Australia
- $2,000 for conferences to New Zealand
- $3,000 for conferences to Asia Pacific region
- $4,000 for conferences to Europe, North and South America and Rest of World.
The approved funding will be decided based on the application budget and at the discretion of the Faculty.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this grant, you must:
- be enrolled in a graduate research degree in the Faculty of Arts
- have your candidature confirmed but not have exceed 4 years (EFTSL) of candidature for PhD or 2 years (EFTSL) of candidature for MA by Research
- present your research at a conference
- have an approved Study Away
Selection criteria
The selection is based on the candidate presenting their research at a conference approved by their principal supervisor.
Conditions
Upon return from study overseas you may be requested to provide a short reflection of your exchange to use on the SOLL website.

How to apply
To apply for this grant, please submit an application.
As part of the application, you will be asked to provide the following documents:
- Conference details and evidence of paper acceptance to present your research
- A budget with an itemised summary of expenses and justification and evidence of sources of quotations budgeted items (ie. travel, accommodation, conference fees, etc.)
- A brief statement of support from your supervisor in support of the proposed presentation, outlining how the conference is academically justifiable to your thesis, how will attendance at this conference benefit your research and that your budget costs are reasonable
Applications are processed in four rounds each year:
- Round 1: 31 January – Eligible conference dates: 1 March to 31 May
- Round 2: 30 April – Eligible conference dates: 1 June to 31 August
- Round 3: 31 July – Eligible conference dates: 1 September to 30 November
- Round 4: 31 October – Eligible conference dates: 1 December to 28 February
Note, the conference date, published on the official conference website, must fall between the dates indicated above.
When will I know the outcome?
Applicants are generally notified of the outcome of their application within 4 weeks of submission. Scholarship payment are made on set pay days. You should receive your payment 2-3 weeks from the date of outcome notification.
