Summary

The Brian and Ann Dooley Indigenous Scholarship is awarded to assist with education, teaching and training costs as well as assist with relocation and/or accommodation costs.
This scholarship will be open to commencing or current Indigenous students, but with a preference for commencing students and students from a remote or rural background.
This scholarship is to support students in the field of oral health and dentistry.

Benefits

This scholarship provides a living allowance of $10,000 per year for the duration of the course (maximum of 4 years for Doctor of Dental Surgery and maximum of 3 years for Bachelor of Oral Health) paid in half-yearly instalments in April and September.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by descent, identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and be accepted as such by the community in which you live or have lived
  • Have applied for or be enrolled in, the Bachelor of Oral Health or the Doctor of Dental Surgery at the Melbourne Dental School.

Selection criteria

The award is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their overall level of disadvantage. Students from regional or remote areas of Australia are given preference.

Conditions

  • This scholarship is subject to the course progress review policy MPF1291
  • Deferrals are not ordinarily permitted, however, the scholarship can be deferred to the following year if there are compassionate or compelling circumstances that prevent you from commencing your course in the year for which the scholarship was offered
  • Students must affirm and maintain their eligibility for support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. See: Establishing your eligibility
  • If in the opinion of the selection committee, no suitable candidate is available in a particular year, the net annual income from that year may be added to the capital sum and the award may not be made
  • The scholarship is subject to the coursework scholarship terms and conditions
  • The scholarship may be revoked if the recipient fails to meet any of the above conditions
