The Brian John Shaw Scholarship was established in memory of Brian John Shaw QC and is awarded to students who are enrolling in the Juris Doctor and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances.
About the donor
The Brian John Shaw Scholarship was established to recognise Brian John Shaw QC (BA(Hons) 1956, LLB(Hons) 1956 and his honourable and distinguished career at the Bar and within the legal profession, and to preserve his memory.
Benefits
This scholarship provides a living allowance of $15,000 per year for three years paid in half-yearly instalments of $7500 in April and September. The first instalment will be split in $1,500 as an establishment allowance paid shortly after enrolment and $6000 in April.

Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- Have applied for Juris Doctor through Graduate Access Melbourne under the Disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances category
- Have submitted the Disadvantaged Socio-economic Circumstances Supplementary Form
- Meet the Graduate Access Melbourne entry requirement for the Juris Doctor
Selection criteria
The award is offered to the student(s) ranked highest based on their overall disadvantage score based on the information provided in their Graduate Access Melbourne application.
