Established by colleagues of Brian John Shaw QC (BA(Hons) 1956, LLB(Hons) 1956) to mark his retirement, this scholarship recognises his honourable and distinguished career at the Bar and within the legal profession, and to preserve his memory.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria


    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • Have applied for and received admission to the Melbourne Juris Doctor in the upcoming intake; and
    • Have applied through Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM) under the 'Disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances' category:
    1. Applicants must satisfy GAM eligibility criteria; and
    2. Juris Doctor applicants must supplement their application by completing the Disadvantaged socioeconomic circumstances - Supplementary form, which includes an additional 750-word statement, and income & expenses summaries.
    3. Applicants must substantiate their claims with relevant, third-party verified, documentation such as payslips, Centrelink statements etc.

    Selection criteria

    The scholarship is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Recipients will receive an outcome with their admission offer.

What are the benefits?

$10,000 per year over three years (total $30,000).
