Burnet Family Access Scholarship

The scholarship was established thanks to the generosity of the Burnet Family, to assist a student who is eligible for Access Melbourne through the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) and is transitioning to tertiary study. The Burnet Family Access Scholarship will provide a yearly allowance for the normal duration of the Bachelor of Commerce degree (up to 300 credit points). One scholarship is available every three years.

This scholarship is available in 2024.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident,
    • commencing Bachelor of Commerce full time,
    • have a strong academic ability,
    • apply to commence the Bachelor of Commerce through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC),
    • submit an application for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) via VTAC,
    • meet the criteria to be eligible under the Access Melbourne Scheme.

    Selection criteria

    Eligible applicants will be assessed on academic merit and a SEAS application.

    Selection is made based on information provided by VTAC at the time of selection. The Selection Committee will not have access to change of course preference information.

  • Application process

    Students who meet the eligibility criteria will be automatically considered. There is no separate application process.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Only successful applicants will be contacted. Unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.

What are the benefits?

The scholarship will provide a yearly allowance of approximately $5,500 for the normal full-time duration of the Bachelor of Commerce degree (three years).

Recipients of the scholarship will automatically be admitted into the Abernethy Scholars Program. This program provides unique opportunities such as guaranteed access to the Faculty’s Career Mentoring Program, invitations to a variety of leadership events hosted by the Faculty and an academic mentoring opportunity with Professor Margaret Abernethy, Sir Douglas Copland Chair of Commerce and former Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics.
