Burnet Family Access Scholarship

The scholarship was established thanks to the generosity of the Burnet Family, to assist a student who is in financial need in transitioning to tertiary study. The Burnet Family Access Scholarship will provide a yearly allowance for the normal duration of the Bachelor of Commerce degree (up to 300 credit points). One scholarship is available every three years.

The next scholarship will be awarded in 2021.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

    • be an Australian citizen
    • have a strong academic ability
    • have a permanent address in a rural or isolated area
    • apply to commence the Bachelor of Commerce through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC)
    • submit an application for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) via VTAC
    • meet the criteria to be eligible under the Access Melbourne Scheme

    VTAC Applications
    Open Monday 6 August at 9:00am and close Thursday 27 September at 5:00pm

    SEAS Applications
    Open Monday 6 August at 9:00am and close Friday 12 October at 5:00pm

    ATAR and VCE Results
    Released online Friday 14 December at 7:00am

    Selection criteria

    Eligible applicants will be asessed on academic merit and a SEAS application providing evidence of residence in rural or isolated areas.

    Selection is made based on information provided by VTAC at the time of selection. The Selection Committee will not have access to change of course preference information.

  • Application process

    Students who meet the eligibility criteria will be automatically considered. There is no separate application process.

    Please note: Applicants who have applied for the First in the Family Scholarship will also be considered for this scholarship. If more than one student meets the eligibility guidelines the scholarship will be awarded on academic merit as demonstrated by ATAR score or equivalent and overall category SEAS rating as decided by VTAC.

What are the benefits?

The scholarship will provide a yearly allowance of approximately $5,000 for the normal duration of the Bachelor of Commerce degree (up to 300 credit points).

Recipients of the scholarship will automatically be admitted into the Abernethy Scholars Program. This program provides unique opportunities such as guaranteed access to the Faculty’s Career Mentoring Program, invitations to a variety of leadership events hosted by the Faculty and an academic mentoring opportunity with Professor Margaret Abernethy, Sir Douglas Copland Chair of Commerce and former Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics.
