Summary

The David Kenworthy Memorial Scholarship is offered to students who are enrolled in the penultimate year of the Master of Engineering (Chemical or Biochemical) and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances. Preference is  given to students from regional or remote areas of Australia who are living away from home.

About the donor

Christine Kenworthy established the David Kenworthy Memorial Scholarship in memory of her husband, David, who completed a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering in 1970 and a Master of Engineering Science in 1974 at the University of Melbourne.

Benefits

The scholarship provides a living allowance of $14,000 paid in two instalments of $7,000 in April and September.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be enrolled in the Master of Chemical Engineering (or its successor)
  • Have completed at least 100 points but less than 200 points.

Selection criteria

The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their FEIT Financial Assessment score and personal statement. Students from a remote or regional area will be given preference if ranked fifth or higher

Application

How to apply

Students must submit the 2026 FEIT Financial Assessment form and an application, including a personal statement addressing:

  • the reasons for studying Chemical Engineering,
  • the impact of financial hardship on your studies, and
  • the benefit the scholarship will have.

When will I know the outcome?

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application approximately six to eight weeks after the application close date.
