Summary
The Donovan Johnston Memorial Scholarship was established with a gift from Kathleen Mary Johnston and is awarded to domestic students who are enrolling in the Juris Doctor, are from regional or remote areas of Australia, and are residing at university accommodation.
Benefits
This scholarship provides a living allowance of $5000 for one year, with a $1500 payment made shortly after enrolling in the course, and a payment of $3500 in April.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident
- Have applied and met entry requirements for the Juris Doctor under the Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM) Rural or isolated area category (and other categories if applicable to their circumstances)
- Be from rural or regional Australia with a permanent place of residence located 80 kilometres or more from the Melbourne General Post Office
- Have applied for a place at University Accommodation or a University-affiliated College.
Selection criteria
The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM) application.
Conditions
This scholarship cannot be deferred to the following academic year. In addition, students must agree to the University sharing their name and course details with the donor of their scholarship and provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.
