The Dr Alan Kenneth Head PhD International Research Award is offered to students who are enrolled in the Doctor of Philosophy - Science in the fields of Physics and are undertaking a project to establish international research connections and collaborations.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, you must be enrolled in the Doctor of Philosophy - Science and undertaking research in the field of Physics.

Selection criteria

The award is offered to the candidate(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on the quality of their application.

Preference is given to high-achieving domestic graduate researchers in the second or third year of their PhD, if ranked tenth or higher.

Conditions

Recipients must:

  • Undertake the overseas travel activity for which the funding has been awarded
  • Agree to the University sharing their name and the name of their course with the donor of this scholarship and to provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.

Note: Graduate Researchers need to apply for Study Away if travelling for research-related activities away from the University.

How to apply

You must submit an application and include:

  • A personal statement addressing the objectives of the project and how it may foster international collaboration, the scientific significance of the research, and the impact of collaboration on the project and PhD thesis
  • A detailed budget that outlines the cost of achieving the project objectives
  • A letter of endorsement from their supervisor.

When will I know the outcome?

  • Round 1 (Jan-March applications): May-July
  • Round 2 (June-August applications): September-October
