Summary
The Dr Robert Neville McCarthy Scholarship was established by a gift from Dr Neville John McCarthy and Mrs Margaret Patricia McCarty and is offered to graduate researchers in veterinary medicine or veterinary science. Preference will be given to students with an interest in Equine Health and Performance.
About the donor
The scholarship memorialises the late Dr Robert Neville McCarthy, BVSc, PhD, veterinary scientist and the son of the donors, who died in 1993.
Benefits
The scholarship provides a one-off payment of $3,000 for graduate researchers enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or $5,000 for graduate researchers enrolled in Veterinary Science.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must either be enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and undertaking an approved research project as part your degree, or be enrolled in a graduate research degree in Veterinary Science.
Selection criteria
The scholarship is offered to the graduate researcher(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on the overall quality of their application. Students undertaking research in Equine Health and Performance are given preference if ranked fifth or higher.
In the interests of equitable distribution of scholarships, other scholarships or prizes from the University of Melbourne received by students are considered.
Conditions
Recipients must agree to the University sharing their name and course details with the donor of their scholarship and provide a note of appreciation or a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.
Recipients who are enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine must commence the research project for which the award was offered and present their work to peers, if requested.

How to apply
You must submit an application and include a personal statement addressing how the proposed research project will enhance your veterinary education or how the award will benefit your graduate research. Graduate researchers must also include a statement of support from your supervisor.
