Summary
The Elizabeth and Vernon Puzey Scholarship was established in 1992 with a donation from Elizabeth Bernaldo Puzey, and is offered to students undertaking research in the field of Medicine, Science or Engineering.
About the donor
Mrs Elizabeth Bernaldo Puzey of 397 Toorak Road, South Yarra, gave her home to the University of Melbourne to support scholarship and fellowships to Australian citizens to undertake research in the fields of Medicine, Science and Engineering. Mrs Puzey was concerned that the rewards (both salary or otherwise) offered and available in Australia are not adequate to prevent substantial numbers of well qualified persons in medical research, science and engineering from leaving the country and applying their skills elsewhere to the disadvantage of Australia and its residents generally and is anxious to provide inducements calculated to counter this trend.
Benefits
The Elizabeth and Vernon Puzey Scholarship provide a living allowance of $10,000 per year pro rata for up to 2 years for Master by research degree students or up to 3.5 years for Doctoral degree students.
The scholarship will be offered concurrently with a Research Training Program Scholarship (Stipend and Fee Offset) and together will provide a living allowance of $47,000 per year pro rata (2024 full-time rate). The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.
