Summary
The Business and Economics Indigenous Graduate Research Scholarship is offered to Indigenous candidates who are enrolling in the Doctor of Philosophy - Business and Economics. Our Graduate Programs are designed to build innovation, capacity and prepare you for a career in industry in research or professional roles.
Benefits
The scholarship provides a per annum stipend of $54,600 per year (pro rata) for 3.5 years consisting of:
- Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship (at the standard research rate, e.g. $34,400 per annum in 2023)
- Business and Economics Indigenous Graduate Research Scholarship ($20,200 per annum in 2023)
A Relocation Grant of $2,000 is also available for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3,000 for students moving from outside Australia.
A Travel & Professional Development Allowance of $10,000 per annum is also available during the awardee’s enrolment in the PhD.

Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and be accepted as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander by the community in which you live or formerly lived
Selection criteria
This scholarship is open to all eligible candidates.
Conditions
- This scholarship is conditional upon awardees maintaining enrolment in the Faculty of Business and Economics Doctoral program and meeting all progression hurdles in the PhD program.
- This scholarship is subject to the Graduate Research Scholarships Terms & Conditions.
- This scholarship cannot be transferred outside of the Faculty of Business and Economics.
- Your status as an Indigenous Australian must be confirmed by the Murrup Barak Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development.
