Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships

Established in honour of the late Frank Knox to encourage scholarly exchange between the United States and the British Commonwealth, this scholarship supports graduate coursework students to undertake graduate study at Harvard University.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • have applied directly to the relevant graduate school at Harvard University for your chosen degree program
    • have Australian citizenship at the time of application and normally reside in Australia
    • have graduated with a Bachelor or higher degree at an Australian university by the 2023-2024 academic year
    • have completed the Bachelor or higher degree no earlier than 2019

    Selection criteria

    The Knox Fellowship Program is administered by the Committee on General Scholarships at Harvard University.  Applicants should apply directly to the Committee via the Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship website.

    Knox Fellowships are not awarded for undergraduate study or postdoctoral research, nor do they support medical research, post-doctoral research, or any other research appointment.

    Candidates who enrol in part-time degree programs, online programs, or Executive Education programs are not eligible for Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships.

  • Application process

      The below documents must be submitted via the  Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship application portal by 9th February:

    • Certified copies of all academic transcripts
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Personal essay (maximum 1000 words); provide an account of your academic pursuits, intellectual interests, extra-curricular activities, and the reasons for your desire to study at Harvard University; the essay should also explain your plan of study at Harvard and your future career plans.
    • Two confidential letters of recommendation

    Only complete applications submitted before the closing date will be considered.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship will directly notify applicants of their outcomes by no later than June 2024.

What are the benefits?

  • A stipend of at least US$30,000 for a ten-month academic year, or up to a maximum of two years for multiple-year programs; and
  • Tuition fees covered; and
  • Health insurance fees covered
