    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

    Fulbright scholarships are open to Postgraduates, Postdoctoral, Professional and Senior Scholars from any field of study.

    Selection criteria

    Each individual’s application should be about the candidate, how the program time will be spent, and what outcomes can be reasonably expected. What is successful for one applicant may not be effective for another applicant.

    Fulbright Scholarship Program

    The Fulbright Scholarship Program was established in Australia in 1949 as an initiative of the US Senator J. William Fulbright, through a binational treaty between the Australian and United States Governments.

    The program provides unique opportunities for Australians to build long term research collaboration and linkages with U.S. universities.

    Fulbright Scholarships are awarded by the Australian American Fulbright Commission. The mission of the Australian-American Fulbright Commission is to promote mutual understanding through Education, teaching and training and cultural exchange between Australia and the United States.

What are the benefits?

There are varying benefits depending on your level of study, including:

  • monthly stipend for living expenses
  • travel Allowance
  • establishment allowance
  • some tuition and VSR fees
  • ASPE medical insurance of up to A$100,000 (for the scholar only)
  • national orientation program, showcase & gala presentation dinner
  • assistance with identifying and applying to host institutions via Placement Services
  • in-country “gateway” orientation program, run by the IIE
  • enrichment Seminars in the United States with other international Fulbright scholars
  • access to a professional network of distinguished Australian and American Fulbright alumni
  • ongoing assistance from the Commission with visas, enrichment opportunities and pastoral care
  • media and publicity support
