    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    Fulbright scholarships are open to Postgraduates, Postdoctoral, Professional and Senior Scholars from any field of study.

    Selection criteria

    The attributes Fulbright Scholarship selection panels look for include high academic and professional merit, a strong program proposal, well defined potential project outcomes and ambassadorial skills.

    Fulbright Scholarship Program

    The Fulbright Scholarship Program was established in Australia in 1949 as an initiative of the US Senator J. William Fulbright, through a binational treaty between the Australian and United States Governments.

    The program provides unique opportunities for Australians to build long term research collaboration and linkages with U.S. universities.

    Fulbright Scholarships are awarded by the Australian American Fulbright Commission. The mission of the Australian-American Fulbright Commission is to promote mutual understanding through Education, teaching and training and cultural exchange between Australia and the United States.

What are the benefits?

Benefits vary per award and depend on your level of study. Awards generally include:

  • Monthly stipend based on the cost of living in the city of the host institution
  • Partial tuition allowance for one academic year or Full tuition allowance (Fulbright Future award only)
  • Round-trip, economy class airfare directly to and from the scholar’s home city and the city of the host institution
  • Establishment allowance
  • Dependent allowance- if applicable
  • Assistance with identifying US host institutions via Placement Services (Coursework applicants only)
  • Health & Accident Insurance (ASPE) – valued at up to USD$100,000 (for the scholar only)
  • Access to established professional networks – alumni and other international collaborative groups
  • Orientation and enrichment opportunities – in Australia and the US
  • Extensive support – from the Commission as well as US organisations
  • Media and publicity support
