Summary
The Geoffrey Charter Media Scholarship was established with a gift from Sharon Terry to honour the legacy of journalist Geoffrey Charter and is awarded to domestic students who are enrolling in the Master of Journalism and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances. Preference will be given to Indigenous Australian students.
Benefits
This scholarship provides a living allowance of $15,000 per year for two years, paid in equal instalments of $7,500 in April and September.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a holder of an Australian permanent visa
- Have met the entry requirements and be enrolling in the Master of Journalism via Graduate Access Melbourne.
Selection criteria
The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest based on their level of disadvantage.
Preference will be given to indigenous students if ranked fifth or higher.
In the event of a tie, the scholarship will be awarded to the candidate with the highest course entry score.
Conditions
This scholarship is subject to the University’s Coursework Scholarship Terms and Conditions and can be deferred to the following year with prior approval from the University. In addition, students must:
- Agree to the University providing their name and course details to the donor of their scholarship and provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested
- If Indigenous, affirm and maintain their eligibility for support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. See: Confirming your eligibility
