Summary
The Harrison Pennicott PhD Scholarship has been established to support research into systemic sclerosis. Harrison Pennicott is a young boy who has disabling pansclerotic morphea, a manifestation of Scleroderma. He is only one of two in the world to have this form of the disease. Through Harrison along with his family and with the help of our Ambassador Dyson Heppell, much needed awareness and funds have been raised for Scleroderma.
Benefits
- Stipend payments will be made by the University of Melbourne Scholarship Office, with payments made fortnightly into the recipient's bank account.
- Recipients will be expected to acknowledge the support of the Harrison Pennicott PhD Scholarship in any presentation of their research work, particularly at their submission seminar and in their thesis.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- Have applied for admission in a PhD at the University of Melbourne.
- Have submitted an Expression of Interest of 1000 words or less that highlights their research experience or interest in the field of systemic sclerosis (SS), how their research will contribute to better treatments for SS patients, and how their research is in line with the mission of Scleroderma Victoria.
Selection criteria
The selection panel will be comprised of: Chair of Medicine (St Vincent’s Hospital) and Associate Professor in Medicine (both are UoM staff members).
Applications will be ranked by the Selection Committee taking into account:
- The award will be offered to the student based on academic merit and research proposal score. Preference will be given to those already with research experience in the field of systemic scleroderma.
- When determining the recipient of this scholarship the support already received, in the form of other student awards, by all eligible applicants will be taken into account.
Conditions
Conditions and Reporting:
- The Harrison Pennicott PhD Scholarship will commence from the student’s enrolment date.
- Applicants will be required to provide a brief written report to the donors at the conclusion of their scholarship that demonstrates the impact and benefit to both their research and their career which resulted from being awarded the Scholarship.
