Summary
The Hector Maclean Scholarship was established by the late Mrs Joan Margaret Dickson and is awarded to a research student in the department of Ophthalmology.
About the donor
Mrs Joan Margaret Dickson, bequethed $60,000 as a tribute to the work done by Dr Hector Maclean during the years he was resident in Melbourne. This is also known as the Hector Maclean 'Summer' Scholarship.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
- Be enrolled in a Graduate Research degree in the field of Science, Biomedicine, Medicine, or other relevant degree to Ophthalmology.
Selection criteria
Recipients of the scholarship will be selected based on the application and an interview.
Conditions
The duration of the scholarship is 4-8 weeks, full-time or part-time, dependent on the supervisor’s approval. This period can comprise a placement in either:
Block 1 (3 November to 19 December 2025) or
Block 2 (12 January to 27 February 2026)
Positions can run across both Block 1 and 2 with PI approval, with exact dates to be negotiated between the student and supervisor.
