Summary

The Helen Macpherson Smith Scholarship was established by a donation from the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust and offered to female students undertaking research study in the two areas of Scientific and Technical disciplines and Humanities and Social Sciences.

Benefits

This scholarship provides a stipend of $5,000 per year for 2 years for students undertaking a Master by research degree or 3.5 years for student undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy degree.

The scholarship can be held concurrently with another graduate research scholarship.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • have received an offer for a graduate research degree commencing in the year for which the scholarship is awarded
  • intend to undertake research in Science or Engineering, or Humanities and Social Sciences
  • have not already completed a research qualification at the same or higher level as the course for which a scholarship is sought

Selection criteria

This scholarship rotates between research areas and is offered to the candidate(s) ranked highest based on their course entry score.

Conditions

This scholarship is subject to the Graduate Research Scholarships Terms & Conditions (as amended) and can be deferred to the following academic year.

This scholarship can be held concurrently with another graduate research scholarship.

You must acknowledge the contribution of this scholarship in any published or produced material which relate to the research project for which the scholarship was awarded.

You must provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship and give permission for the University to provide the report, your name and course details to the donor.

How to apply

If you have applied for a Master by research or Doctorate by research degree by 31 October for commencement in the following year, you will be automatically considered for this scholarship.

When will I know the outcome?

Successful candidates will be advised of the outcome of their application via email by the end of January.
