Summary

The Henry Buck Scholarship is awarded to the student who has the highest overall scholarship score entering into the Doctor of Philosophy for the year.

About the donor

Henry Buck (1860-1933) was a clothing manufacturer and retailer who supported many charitable organisations in Australia. During the 1914-1918 war, he set up and directed the Volunteer Motor Corps for the Australian division of the British Red Cross Society, providing transport for returned servicemen and nurses after disembarkation and health trips for invalids. In 1920 he was awarded an O.B.E. for his services to the community and business. The terms of his estate included a bequest to the Children's Hospital and the funding of this scholarship in his name at the University of Melbourne. His clothing store, "Henry Bucks", remains a feature of Collins Street in Melbourne.
