This scholarship was established with a donation from Hirsh Taft, and is awarded to a graduate of the University who intend to undertake research at a university in Israel, with preference for the Hebrew University.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident;
    • have graduated from the University of Melbourne;
    • be under the age of 30 at the time of application
    • intend to undertake further study or research at a university in Israel; and
    • not have completed a course of study at the same or higher level as the proposed overseas study.

    Selection criteria

    Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of academic merit, their personal qualities and financial position. Preference is given to students intending to attend Hebrew University.

  • Application process

    If you have applied for the Jerusalem - Melbourne PhD program or the Prestigious Travelling Scholarships, you will be automatically considered for the Hirsh and Olga Taft Scholarship.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Students who have submitted an application, should receive an outcome within 6 weeks after the relevant closing date

What are the benefits?

An allowance of up to $15,000 for one year. The value may be varied depending on the circumstances of the applicants. The allowance is paid in two instalments, usually in May and October.
