Summary

The Hope and Tony Saba Scholarship was established with a gift from Michael Saba and is awarded to domestic students who are enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances. Preference is given to students from a refugee background.

Benefits

This scholarship provides a living allowance of $10,000 per year for four years, paid in half-yearly instalments of $5000 in April and September.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident
  • Have applied for and met entry requirements for the Doctor of Medicine via Graduate Access Melbourne
  • Be enrolled in the first year of the Doctor of Medicine in the year of the award.

Selection criteria

The scholarship is offered to the eligible candidate(s) ranked highest based on their Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM) application.

Preference will be given to students with a refugee background if ranked fifth or higher.

In the event of a tie, the scholarship will be awarded to the candidate with the highest course entry score.

Conditions

This scholarship cannot be deferred to the following academic year. Recipients must:

  • Maintain an academic status of Good Standing
  • Agree to the University providing their name and course details with the donor of their scholarship and provide a note of appreciation and a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship by submitting an official statement of thanks.
