This scholarship was established with bequests from Patricia Clarice Karas in appreciation of Ian Maxwell, Professor of English at the University of Melbourne, and is offered to students or graduates from the University of Melbourne who intend to undertake graduate study or research outside Australia.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident;
    • be a graduate of or be currently enrolled at the University of Melbourne;
    • intend to undertake a graduate degree or research outside Australia; and
    • not have completed a course of study at the same or higher level as the proposed overseas study.

    Selection criteria

    This scholarship is offered to candidates with the highest selection rank based on academic performance, the quality of their application and their financial position.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Students who have submitted an application, should receive an outcome within 6 weeks after the relevant closing date.

  • Variations of this award

What are the benefits?

An allowance of up to $14,000 per year for the normal duration of the overseas study. The value may be varied depending on the circumstances of the applicants. The allowance is paid in two instalments, usually in May and October.
