  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be enrolled or enrolling in third year majoring in Italian Studies; or,
    • be enrolled or enrolling in fourth year (Honours) in Italian Studies;
    • demonstrate financial disadvantage;
    • be of Italian descent; and,
    • be an Australian permanent resident or citizen.

    Selection criteria

    Eligible applicants will be assessed by a selection committee, with scholarships awarded to the student/s most disadvantaged in their academic work by financial need. The recipient/s will be determined after considering the applicants' statement outlining the positive impact of the scholarship, proposed program of study, and access to other financial resources.

  • Application process

    Submit an online application, including

    • a 300-500 word statement describing how you would use this scholarship and how it would positively impact your academic work, including the importance of Italian studies to you;
    • the University of Melbourne Student Financial Assessment form with attached evidence of submission in your application form;
    • at least one academic reference;
    • current statement of results;
    • copy of Australian residency or citizenship;
    • proof of Italian descent (please supply a copy of your parent's or grandparent's Passport, Birth Certificate, Citizenship Certificate or Death Certificate - this does not need to be an original certified copy but the committee reserve the right to request the original at a later date if required); and,
    • any other information to support your application that may assist the committee in making its decision.
  • When will I know the outcome?

    Applicants will be advised of the outcome via email.

    The Italian  Australian Foundation endeavours to improve the life opportunities for persons of Italian origin and descent through the delivery of services to the frail and elderly and by providing opportunities for students and practitioners to undertake professional development. In keeping with a key objective of the Italian Australian Foundation to “provide services for disadvantaged persons of Italian descent resident in Australia who would not otherwise have access to those services,” the Italian Australian Foundation has commenced a broad program of fellowships and bursaries designed to provide opportunities to students and practitioners to undertake further studies, skills specialisation and vocational training.

What are the benefits?

Up to $20,000. Several awards may be offered from this amount.

Recipients are required to:

  • accept award online within 21 days; and,
  • submit a final report.
