This scholarship, worth approximately $22,500 (pro rata) supports a student undertaking a PhD in economics in a subject matter of relevance to both the UK and Australia, to study at Russell Group Universities of the UK (with a preference for the University of Cambridge).

  • Eligibility & selection criteria


    To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

    • be post confirmation PhD students in the Department of Economics or the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economics and Social Research (MIAESR)
    • be undertaking research in a subject matter of relevance to both the UK and Australia
    • discuss their application with and have approval of their PhD supervisor
    • have the agreement of an appropriate supervisor at a Russell Group institution to provide supervision for the period of the scholarship
    • be enrolled full-time for the duration of the scholarship at a Russell Group university
    • be able to commence the overseas study by no later than June 2019
    • not be due to complete their degree before or during the period of the scholarship
  • Application process

    Students should submit an online application including a cover letter summarising intended overseas studies, CV, supervisor approval, academic reference (outlining the potential to undertake the graduate program the candidate has applied for), and written agreement from an appropriate supervisor at the Russell Group institution to provide supervision for the period of study.

    Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview on Friday 26 October.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Applicants will be notified by email of the outcome of their application in November.
