Katharine Kearns Scholarship

This scholarship, worth approximately $10,000, supports domestic Melbourne Conservatorium of Music instrumental students aged up to 30 in travelling to Germany, France or the UK to further their studies in pianoforte, violin, viola or violoncello. This scholarship is open for application biennially (even years).

  • Eligibility & selection criteria


    To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

    • be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of aged under 30 at the time of application
    • specialise in pianoforte, violin, viola or violoncello and be intending to pursue further study in Germany, France or the United Kingdom

    Selection criteria

    Eligible applicants will be assessed on artistic and academic merit, career aspirations, financial need and likely success in completing the proposed course of study.

    The recipient must give a free public concert in Ballarat, Victoria (Katharine Kearns' birthplace) befote leaving Australia to study abroad, and a second free public performance in Ballarat on his/her return.
