Summary

This scholarship supports graduate students specialising in piano in undertaking activity at a major piano-teaching academy or university outside of Australia.

Benefits

Payment of approximately $10,000. The amount of funds offered depends on the nature and scope of the project and funding is provided at the discretion of the Trustees annually. Successful applicants will be required to provide a completion statement of their activities.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen
  • have graduated or be eligible to graduate in Music from an Australian University or be currently enrolled in a postgraduate Music course at an Australian University
  • intend to participate at a European festival OR enrol in a postgraduate place at a piano-teaching institution outside of Australia OR intend to secure private tuition with an approved piano teacher outside of Australia
  • Strongest preference is for Master of Music Performance Research (Keyboard) students as well as PhD Performance Research (Keyboard) students, particularly those in the early stages of candidacy. Exceptionally high achieving Bachelor of Music Honours (Keyboard) students with strong graduate research potential can also be considered. Students enrolled in the Master of Music Performance Teaching (Keyboard) may also apply.

Selection criteria

Eligible applicants will be assessed on:

  • artistic merit
  • academic merit as demonstrated by previous academic achievement
  • career aspirations
  • travel purpose
  • likely success in completing the proposed course of study or benefit from the travel plan
  • relevant transcripts or evidence of achievements as a pianist.

The Dean, on recommendation of the graduate committee, will approve the recipients. Successful recipients will be notified via post of the outcome. All other unsuccessful recipients will be emailed.
