Summary

The MDHS Scholarship Fund - Narrative Therapy and Community Work Scholarship Program for Indigenous Students commenced in 2010 from donations within and outside the University by an appeal form, to support scholarships for students in medicine, dentistry and health sciences at The University of Melbourne. Benefits

Non-monetary award for placement in the scholarship program. Each scholarship valued at $6,250.
One award available to each student that meets the criteria (estimated at 6-10) annually.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be eligible you must:

  • Be enrolled or applying to enrol in the Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work (MC-NTCW)
  • Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by descent, identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and be accepted as such by the community in which you live or have lived
  • Be accepted into or enrolled in an eligible course of study.

Selection criteria

Students who enrol in the course and are identified as ATSI will be considered to have met the criteria for this scholarship. No further selection criteria apply however if the eligible numbers increase significantly (based on previous enrolments this is not anticipated) the criteria will be reviewed.

The scholarship funds will be paid as a reimbursement to the department to provide the following package of integrated activities for recipients:

  1. Learning hub at University of Melbourne (for Indigenous students, tutors and Dulwich staff)
  2. Culturally responsive tutor for online teaching blocks
  3. Culturally responsive academic mentoring
  4. Indigenous alumni resources - to provide ideas and support to future Indigenous students
  5. Culturally responsive research related resources to assist Indigenous students

Conditions

Students must affirm and maintain their eligibility for support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. See: Establishing your eligibility.
