Eligibility & selection criteria
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
Undergraduate applicants
- be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia and either:
- have applied for or hold a temporary Australian humanitarian visa; or
- have applied for a permanent Australian humanitarian visa
- have completed Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate in Australia
- not have undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a Year 12 program).
- have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate course via VTAC for commencement in the year following completion of Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate
- meet the entry requirements for the University of Melbourne course nominated in your VTAC application
Graduate applicants
- be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia and either:
- have applied for or hold a temporary Australian humanitarian visa; or
- have applied for a permanent Australian humanitarian visa
- have applied for and meet the entry requirements for graduate degree by coursework
Selection criteria
This scholarship is offered to the students with the highest entry score, where there are more candidates than scholarships available or more than one candidate with a preference for the same degree course.
Conditions
This scholarship is subject to the Coursework Scholarships Terms and Conditions and can be deferred to the following academic year. In addition, if you are granted an Australian permanent visa, you will be offered a Commonwealth Support Place (CSP) subject to availability or an Australian Fee Place and the benefits of the scholarship will continue for the remaining duration. Application process
You must submit the online application form by the closing date. As part of the application you will need to attach evidence of your current visa status and provide a brief statement on how the scholarship will benefit you.

When will I know the outcome?
Offers for undergraduate applicants are made from late December.
Offers for postgraduate applicants are made from mid January.
What are the benefits?
- a living allowance of $5,000 per year (paid in two instalments in April and September) for up to the standard full-time duration of your course.
- a full fee remission for the normal full-time duration of your degree course
