Eligibility & selection criteria
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
Undergraduate applicants
- be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia and either:
- have applied for or hold a temporary Australian humanitarian visa; or
- have applied for a permanent Australian humanitarian visa
- have completed Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate in Australia
- have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate course via VTAC for commencement in the year following completion of Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate
- satisfy the course prerequisites and have achieved at least the minimum ATAR score for the University of Melbourne course
- not have undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a Year 12 program).
Graduate applicants
- be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia and either:
- have applied for or hold a temporary Australian humanitarian visa; or
- have applied for a permanent Australian humanitarian visa
- have applied for a University of Melbourne graduate degree by coursework
- satisfy the course prerequisites and have achieved at least the minimum entry score for the University of Melbourne course
Selection criteria
This scholarship is offered to the students with the highest entry score, where there are more candidates than scholarships available or more than one candidate with a preference for the same degree course.
Conditions
This scholarship is subject to the Coursework Scholarships Terms and Conditions. In addition, you must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course at the University of Melbourne as an international student. If you are granted an Australian permanent visa, the scholarship will cease. You may be considered for a Commonwealth Support Place (CSP) subject to availability. See: Granted Permanent Residency. The scholarship can be deferred to the following year if there are compassionate or compelling circumstances that prevent you from commencing your course in the year for which the scholarship was offered.

Application process
You must submit the online application form by the closing date. As part of the application you will need to attach evidence of your current visa status and provide a brief statement on how the scholarship will benefit you.
Applications usually open in September.

When will I know the outcome?
Offers for undergraduate applicants are made from late December.
Offers for postgraduate applicants are made from mid January.
What are the benefits?
- a living allowance of $5,000 per year (paid in two instalments in April and September) for up to the standard full-time duration of your course.
- a full fee remission for the normal full-time duration of your degree course
