This scholarship is awarded to talented students from states and territories of Australia other than Victoria to assist with the cost of moving to Melbourne.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen
    • have completed Australian Year Twelve or International Baccalaureate in a state or territory of Australia other than Victoria,
    • have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate course via VTAC for commencement in the year following completion of Australian Year Twelve or International Baccalaureate
    • satisfy the prerequisites for a University of Melbourne undergraduate course and have achieved an ATAR of 99.00 – 99.85.
    • not have previously undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a Year 12 program)

    Selection criteria

    This scholarship is guaranteed to all eligible students.

    Conditions

    This scholarship is subject to the Coursework Scholarships Terms & Conditions and can be deferred to the following academic year. Also you cannot hold both a Melbourne National Merit Scholarship and a Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship.

  • Application process

    If you have applied for admission to the University via VTAC, you will automatically be considered for the Melbourne National Merit Scholarship.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Offers are made in December following the release of ATAR results.

A one-off allowance of $8,000 paid in the first semester of enrolment.

Accommodation Close to Campus

If you live in rural or regional Victoria or outside Victoria, then you are eligible for priority placement in the Melbourne Accommodation Program. To support your transition to Melbourne, the University can accommodate you in one of our residential halls or partner-provided facilities close to the Parkville Campus. The offer does not include the cost of the accommodation. Places are limited so apply early to avoid disappointment.
