Summary

The Merralls Scholarship was established with a gift from an anonymous donor and is awarded to domestic students who are undertaking the Juris Doctor and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances. Preference is given to Indigenous students.

Benefits

This scholarship provides a living allowance of $12,000 per year for three years paid in half-yearly instalments of $6000 in April and September. The first instalment will be split in $1500 as an establishment allowance paid shortly after enrolment and $4500 in April.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident
  • Have applied for and met entry requirements for the Juris Doctor via Graduate Access Melbourne under the Disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances category.

Selection criteria

The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their Graduate Access Melbourne application. Preference is given to Indigenous students.

Conditions

This scholarship is subject to the Melbourne Law School Awards Terms and Conditions and cannot be deferred to the following year. In addition, students must:

  • Agree to the University sharing their name and course details with the donor of their scholarship and provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested
  • Indigenous students must affirm and maintain their eligibility for support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. See: Establishing your eligibility
