Summary

The Michael Kierce Prize was established in 2002 by family, friends and colleagues of Michael Kierce, BHealthSc (Victoria UT), GDipCritCareNurs RN. Michael was a lecturer in the Department of Nursing, an inspired teacher and academic who encouraged his students to take a leadership role through combining clinical excellence with research.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this prize, you must

  • Be completing your fourth year of a nursing course, and
  • Demonstrate research excellence, clinical excellence and the potential for leadership in clinical practice research.

Selection criteria

The recipient will be selected based on demonstrated research excellence, clinical excellence and the potential for leadership in clinical practice research.

All three criteria must be accorded equal weight; a student's clinical excellence and leadership in clinical practice is to be assessed on reports of the student's supervisors and research excellence is to be assessed on a research subject undertaken as part of the course.
