The R.D. Wright Prize was established by the Heads of the Department of Physiology, the Department of Surgery in the Austin and Repatriation General Hospitals, The Howard Florey Institute of Experimental Physiology and Medicine and the Royal Children's Hospital. The prize is offered to students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Biomedical Science with the highest aggregate mark in second and third year physiology subjects.

About the donor

The prize memorialises Professor Roy Douglas Wright, a long standing member of staff who transformed the Faculty and significantly contributed to tertiary education. He also served as Chancellor of the University from 1980-1989.

Total fund amount to award per year is approximately $15,000 (this also covers the RD Wright Studentship). Category 1 - $1,000, Category 2 - $1,000, Category 3 - $1,000, Category 4 - $1,000, and Category 5 - $2,000

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this prize, you must be enrolled in at least one Physiology subject (subjects listed in selection criteria).

Selection criteria

The prize is offered to the students ranked highest based on one of the following:

  1. Final year student for the degree of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Biomedical Science with the highest aggregate mark in second and third year physiology subjects. Results in PHYS20008, PHYS20009, BIOM20002, PHYS30010, PHYS30009, PHYS30011, PHYS30012 and NEUR30002 reviewed to determine the highest performing student. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least 3 level 3 subjects.
  2. Top student in PHYS20008 (second-year BSc; prior year)
  3. Top student in BIOM20002 (second-year BBiomed; prior year)
  4. Top student in Physiology major (BSc or BBiomed), results in PHYS30010, PHYS30009, PHYS30011 and PHYS30012 plus major elective subjects reviewed to determine the student with the highest aggregate mark in the subjects that comprise the major. Preference will be granted to students that have completed at least 3 physiology discipline subjects.
  5. Top Honours student in Physiology (prior year), results in honours subjects reviewed to determine the student with the highest WAM.
