This scholarship, valued at up to $8,000, is awarded to the student rugby player in Year 12 at an Australian school who best exemplifies the characteristics that made Lieutenant Colonel Sir Ernest Edward "Weary" Dunlop famous: academic endeavour, leadership, and sporting excellence. It is awarded through the University's Elite Athlete Program.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this award, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident in Year 12
  • Enrol to study at the University of Melbourne in 2026 and join the Melbourne University Rugby Football Club for the 2026 season

Selection criteria

Supporting material taken into consideration will include:

  • Details of sporting, leadership and community achievements
  • Endorsement of a club or school coach
  • Endorsement of a school teacher or coordinator
