Summary

The Runaboard Diabetic Retinopathy PhD Scholarship is available to an enrolling PhD student who demonstrates research potential and intent to undertake research in the area of Diabetic Retinopathy in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences.This project will be under the support and supervision of Associate Professor Andrew Symons.

Benefits

A fortnightly allowance amounting to $10,000 per annum for up to 3.5 years.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be an outstanding applicant commencing a graduate research degree in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences
  • be deemed as eligible for entry to PhD at the University of Melbourne according to standard entry criteria.
  • be under the supervision of Associate Professor Andrew Symons, as evidenced by a letter of endorsement as part of the application process;
  • intend to undertake research in the area of Diabetic Retinopathy in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences
  • Provide a statement of project that aligns with the purpose of the award
  • Complete and submit all relevant forms and supporting documents

Selection criteria

The award will be offered to the student based on the following:

  • The quality of statement of proposal and hypotheses;
  • The relevance of the statement of proposal to the defined purpose of the award;
  • Prior research experience and academic merit;
  • Approval of the intended supervising team.

The selection committee will base its assessment on the application form, academic transcripts, the faculty scholarship score, the student's project proposal, CV and a referee report as well as the areas described above.

Please note, this scholarship is contingent upon the applicant obtaining a full-stipend scholarship (i.e. this is a top-up award) .
