Summary

The Samuel and June Hordern Women in Commerce Scholarship was established with a gift from the Samuel and June Hordern Endowment and is awarded to students who identify as women, have completed secondary school in a regional or remote area, and are enrolling in the Bachelor of Commerce.

Benefits

This scholarship provides a living allowance of $10,000 per year for three years, paid in half-yearly instalments of $5000 in April and September.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • Identify as a woman (cis-gender and transwomen)
  • Have a permanent address in a regional or remote area of Australia
  • Not have completed subjects undertaken as part of a tertiary course (except subjects that were part of an extension program)
  • Have applied for the University of Melbourne Bachelor of Commerce (including Graduate Degree Packages) and submitted a VTAC Equity Schemes and scholarships application (formerly SEAS) for commencement in the year following completion of Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate
  • Meet the Access Melbourne entry requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce.

Selection criteria

The scholarship is offered to the eligible candidate(s) ranked highest based on their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and information provided in the VTAC Equity Schemes and scholarships application.

In the event of a tie, more or fewer awards will be offered.

Conditions

This scholarship is subject to the Faculty of Business and Economics Scholarships Terms and Conditions and cannot be deferred to the following year. In addition, students must:

  • Pass all subjects and achieve an average result of at least 65 in each half-year study period
  • Agree to the University sharing their name and the name of their course with the donor of this scholarship and to provide a brief annual report on the benefits of the scholarship.
