Summary

The Sidney Myer Centennial Scholarship was established with a gift from Sidney Myer to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Faculty of Business and Economics in 2024. There are several scholarships available to support students that are underrepresented in the current Bachelor of Commerce and/or have demonstrated disadvantage or need for financial support to pursue tertiary study. The scholarship offers a full tuition fee remission and a generous living allowance over three years. There are two categories of eligibility for international students and this scholarship is only available in 2024.

Benefits

The scholarship for the highest-ranking students provides:

  • A full tuition fee sponsorship for the Bachelor of Commerce and a concurrent diploma (should you choose to pursue one). This means you will not incur tuition fees for the duration of your three-year Bachelor of Commerce and concurrent diploma (if applicable).
  • A living allowance of $37,500 per year for three years paid in quarterly instalments of $9,375. (The duration of the allowance will be extended by one year if students enrol in a concurrent diploma during their Bachelor of Commerce course.)

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be a citizen of India, Indonesia, the Philippines, or Vietnam*
  • OR

  • either have applied for or hold a temporary Australian humanitarian visa; or have applied for a permanent Australian humanitarian visa.
  • AND

    In addition, you must meet all the following requirements:

  • be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia,
  • have completed high school outside Australia (not applicable to asylum seeker applicants),
  • not have completed subjects undertaken as part of a tertiary course (except subjects that were part of an extension program),
  • have applied for and meet the entry requirements for the University of Melbourne Bachelor of Commerce.
*Priority countries for international student diversity are reviewed annually.

Application

How to apply

Students who are seeking asylum in Australia (have either applied for or hold a temporary Australian humanitarian visa or have applied for a permanent Australian humanitarian visa) will need to apply for this scholarship. The application will require students to provide details about their visa status. You can apply here by 30 November 2023. Please note this application form is also used for the Melbourne Humanitarian Access Scholarship.

Students who are a citizen of India, Indonesia, the Philippines, or Vietnam will be automatically considered for this scholarship. No further information is required and there is no separate application process.

When will I know the outcome?

Successful international students will be notified of their scholarship offer in December 2023 or January 2024.

Scholarship offers are sent by email to the email address a student used to apply to the University. Only successful scholarship outcomes are issued. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.
