Summary

The Sir Arthur Sims Travelling Scholarship was established in 1945 with a donation from Sir Arthur Sims, and is awarded to graduates of any Australian university who undertake graduate study or research in subjects Ancient or Modern Languages, History, Philosophy, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Medicine at an institution in Great Britain.

Benefits

A living allowance of around $16,000 per year for the duration of the overseas study, paid in two instalments in May and October. The value may be varied depending on the circumstances of the applicants.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be born in any of the States or Territories of Australia or be the child of parents both of whom have been resident in Australia for a period of seven years or more such period of residence having commenced within a period of three years since the birth of the child
  • have graduated from any Australian university
  • have applied for a graduate coursework or research degree in the subjects Ancient or Modern Languages, History, Philosophy, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Medicine at an institution in Great Britain
  • not have completed a course of study at the same or higher level as the proposed overseas study

Selection criteria

This scholarship is offered to the applicant(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their application, financial position and results for prior study.
