John Hayden Research Fellowship

This scholarship, worth up to $7,200 is open to students undertaking a graduate research degree in the Department of Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital. The fellow must engage in full-time postgraduate studies in Medicine under the general direction of the Professor of Medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital. It was established in memory of the late Dr John Gerald Hayden, former Professor of Medicine at the University and first Professor of Medicine appointed to St. Vincent's Hospital.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be an outstanding graduate research applicant, or an enrolled graduate researcher, of the Department of Medicine, St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne Medical School, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.
    • be a medical graduate
    • satisfy the Faculty's entry requirements for PhD

    Selection criteria

    Eligible applicants will be assessed on academic merit, faculty scholarship score, demonstrated skill in the relevant research area, career aspiration, and the terms and conditions of the trust.

    The selection committee will base its assessment on the application form, academic transcripts, faculty scholarship score, project proposal, CV, and referee reports.

  • Application process

    Have applied for and met the entry requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

    This scholarship is administered by the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. Please contact mdhs-scholarships@unimelb.edu.au to apply.

    Recipients of trust-funded scholarships are required to reapply by 31 October each year or their scholarship funding will cease.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    Successful candidates will be advised of the outcome of their application according to the Faculty's published timelines.
