Thomas Ewing Scholarship

Donated by the late Thomas Ewing, a Victorian civil engineer and surveyor, this scholarship supports graduate research students in the department of Infrastructure Engineering. In particular, this award seeks to benefit students working on projects without grant or industry funding.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    • be enrolled in a research higher degree in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology; and
    • have submitted an online application consisting of a personal statement describing your research topic and how the funding will benefit your research.

    Selection criteria

      Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

    • Strength of the research, assessed via the personal statement and supporting documents (academic transcripts and CV including a list of any papers published); and
    • How this funding will benefit experimental aspects of the research, assessed via the personal statement; and
    • Supervisor  verification as to whether the student is working on a funded project (strong preference is given to students working on projects without grant or industry funding).
  • Application process

    Submit an online application via the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology graduate research scholarships webpage for current students.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application approximately six to eight weeks after the application close date.

  • About the donor

    Thomas Ewing

    Thomas Ewing completed a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1890 followed by a Master of Civil Engineering in 1893, both at the University of Melbourne.  Thomas Ewing practised as a civil engineer and surveyor and passed away in 1940.
